Build Your HOG Chapter's Favorite Roads Collection
Every HOG chapter has legendary roads only a few members remember. Turn that scattered knowledge into a living collection the whole chapter can ride.

Blinko Local
Every chapter has that one road.
You know the one. Twelve miles of perfect sweepers, a view that stops conversation, maybe a diner at the end that's been feeding riders since before half your chapter was born.
Except only three people actually know how to get there. And two of them haven't ridden with the chapter in a year.
That road is one retirement away from being forgotten.
The Problem
Great roads live in people's heads, not in any shared place.
A veteran member finds a stretch of pavement nobody else knows about. He rides it with a few buddies for years. Then he moves, or steps back from riding, or just stops mentioning it — and the road quietly disappears from your chapter's rotation.
New members never even hear about it. The institutional knowledge just... evaporates.
Why This Matters
Your chapter's favorite roads are your chapter's identity. "We're the group that rides the Ridge Loop every fall" is a real piece of culture — but only if it survives officer turnover and membership changes.
Write it down once, and it survives forever. Leave it in someone's memory, and it survives exactly as long as they keep showing up.
The System: Find > Save > Tag > Expand
1. Start a "Chapter Favorite Roads" Collection
One shared home for every road your chapter loves. Not a group chat thread from 2024 — an actual living Collection.
2. Turn each road into an Itinerary
Where to start, where to stop, the stretch that matters most, the diner or overlook at the end. Anyone should be able to open it and ride it cold.
3. Tag by season and difficulty
Some roads are gorgeous in October and closed by December. Tag it. Some are cruiser-friendly, some aren't. Tag that too. Future members will thank you.
4. Use Spots to discover what's nearby
Here's the part most chapters skip: once a road is saved, look at what Blinko surfaces nearby. That diner everyone stops at? There's probably a scenic overlook two miles past it nobody's found yet, or a second lunch spot for when the usual place is packed on a Saturday.
One known road becomes a cluster of five.
Real Example
Priya's chapter has ridden the same fall loop for six years, but it started with one guy, Walt, who found it solo back in 2020.
When Walt mentioned retiring from riding, Priya realized nobody else actually knew the full route — just fragments.
She sat down with him, built the Itinerary stop by stop, tagged it "best in October, moderate difficulty, gas at mile 40." Then she checked what was nearby and found a second overlook three miles off the main road that even Walt had never stopped at.
That loop isn't Walt's road anymore. It's the chapter's road. And it grew.
Bonus Tips
- Interview your veterans. The best roads are in the heads of members who've ridden longest — ask before they step back.
- Rebuild the Itinerary from memory if you have to. Approximate is better than lost.
- Check what's nearby every time. A saved road is a starting point, not a finished product.
- Tag for season, not just difficulty. A gorgeous summer road can be a hazard in November.
- Share the itinerary after the ride too. Members who missed it get the full recap, not just "yeah it was great."
Start This Week
Ask one veteran member: "What's the best road nobody talks about anymore?"
Build the Itinerary together. Tag it. Check what Blinko surfaces nearby.
By next season, that forgotten road is back in rotation — and it's not going anywhere this time.
