You love that coffee stop on Route 9.

You've been there 20 times. Great coffee. Good vibe. You know it.

But have you explored what's 5 miles around it?

Probably not. But you should.

The Problem

You find a great spot and you revisit it. Makes sense. It's good.

But your best spot becomes a destination. You ride to it. You hang out. You leave.

You never explore the area around it.

Meanwhile, there's probably:

  • Another great road branching off
  • A cool view 10 minutes away
  • Another taco truck two miles down
  • A scenic overlook you've never seen
  • A wild piece of pavement you'd love

But you don't discover it because you're focused on the stop you already know.

Why This Matters

Your favorite spots are exploration hubs.

They're not the end of the ride—they're anchors for discovering more.

The riders who have the most fun aren't the ones who find one great place and visit it a lot. They're the ones who use their favorite spots as launching points to explore outward.

When you explore around your known spots, your riding map grows. You go from knowing 5 great places to knowing 30. Your rides get deeper. You discover more.

The System: Hub > Explore > Capture > Remember

Here's how to use your favorite spots to discover more:

1. Pick one of your favorite stops

Could be the coffee place. The overlook. The gas station. The post-ride hangout.

Somewhere you've been multiple times and know well.

2. Explore 5-10 miles around it

Next time you're at that stop, don't go straight home.

Take a different road out. Wander. See what's nearby.

You might find:

  • A scenic road you never noticed
  • Another great food spot
  • An overlook or view
  • A fun stretch of pavement
  • A cool spot that's only 15 minutes away

Spend an hour exploring around your favorite spot.

3. When you find something cool, capture it

Snap a photo. Note the location. Save it as a spot.

Add it to the same collection as your original favorite spot. They're all connected now—one area, expanding.

4. Do this once per week

Every week, pick one of your known spots. Explore around it. Find one new thing.

By end of month, you've found 4 new spots.

By end of summer, you've transformed 5 favorite stops into exploration hubs with 20-30 discoveries around them.

Real Example

Dave's favorite stop is the taco truck near Miller's Market. He's been there 20 times.

One Saturday, instead of heading home, he explores.

15 minutes away: a scenic overlook he's never seen.

20 minutes away: a road that curves through the mountains, perfect pavement.

He captures both. Adds them to his collection near the taco truck.

Next week, he picks another favorite stop—the coffee shop on Route 9. He explores around it.

Finds a winery 10 minutes away. A hiking trailhead 15 minutes away. Another scenic road.

By end of summer, Dave has taken 5 favorite spots and built them into hubs with 20+ nearby discoveries.

His riding has completely changed. He's not just visiting his favorites—he's exploring the areas around them.

How This Changes Your Riding

It's the difference between:

  • "I know one good coffee place"

vs.

  • "I know a coffee place, and I've explored 10 different roads and 5 other spots around it"

The first gets boring. The second never does.

You're not visiting the same places—you're using them as anchors to explore outward.

Bonus Tips

  • Start with your closest favorite: don't need to ride far to explore around what you already know
  • Use the map feature: in Blinko, look at the area around your spot. See what else is nearby
  • Bring your crew: exploration is more fun together. You find different things
  • Different seasons, different discoveries: summer roads might be closed in winter. Explore by season
  • Document the journey: photos from the road are just as valuable as the destination
  • Connect the dots: once you have 10 spots in an area, you can string them into a whole route
  • Revisit discoveries: just because you found a spot once doesn't mean you've explored everything around it
  • Ask locals: bartender, coffee shop worker, gas station attendant—they know what's nearby

Start This Week

Pick your favorite ride spot. The one you know really well.

This week or next time you go there, pick one direction and explore for 20 minutes.

See what you find. If it's cool, capture it. Add it to your collection near your favorite spot.

That's it.

You've just started expanding your riding map from one spot into a whole area.

By end of summer, that favorite stop won't be your destination—it'll be your hub for exploring everything around it.
